Bill Clinton's fictional collaboration with James Patterson will be a thriller on a missing president. If only.
While it hasn’t been a great year for Democrats in actual politics, the publishing industry apparently can't get enough of high profile progressives. First the Obamas scored a his-and-hers book deal, then the Bidens went on the do the same. Today, we’re hearing that former President Bill Clinton is co-writing a political thriller with best-selling author James Patterson.
This will be a first foray into fiction by the former POTUS, who has previously written a lengthy memoir and books on policy. Patterson is best known for writing the kinds of thrillers that turn into big screen hits, along with children's books like House of Robots. Their collaborative effort is going to be titled The President Is Missing.
Clearly, a book about a missing president would not draw on the life and time of the current occupant of the Oval Office. If he’s ever missing, we’d find him on one of his golf courses. That’s where he always goes. No suspense there.
The publisher’s blurb for the book says it will “offer readers a unique amalgam of intrigue, suspense and behind-the-scenes global drama from the highest corridors of power. It will be informed by insider details that only a President can know.”
The former president says that writing the book has been fun and he’s enjoyed the process of working with his well-known collaborator. For his part, Patterson says, “Working with President Clinton has been the highlight of my career, and having access to his first-hand experience has uniquely informed the writing of this novel.”
The two authors plan to go on a national book tour to promote the book after its release in the spring of 2018.
